Alloy Wheel Refurbishment Process
Examination
We will remove your tyre and carry out a thorough check on your wheels for any buckles, flat spots, cracks, and other issues. If we find that tig welding or straightening is necessary (charges may apply), we will inform you before proceeding with the job.
Chemical Stripping
Once the examination has been completed, the wheels will be placed in a stripping tank to remove all of the paint.
Power Wash
Your wheels are then power washed to clean any remaining traces of the chemical.
Preparation
After removing the paint, we will prep the wheels and use several tools and a purpose-made machine that employs a range of different discs and grinding wheels to remove any kerbing marks present. If the wheel has very deep marks, we will fill in the affected area by tig welding, and this may result in additional costs.
Media Blasting
To achieve this, we use light media blasting with sand to remove any remaining paint residue and surface corrosion from the entire wheel.
Degassing
Wheels are then placed in our industrial oven heated to 200 degrees to de-gas the alloy.
Primer Coating
After the de-gas stage, high-quality powder coat primer is applied and the wheel is returned to the oven for curing.
Base Coat Application
After cooling down to a lower temperature, we will apply a base coat (colour) using a top-quality professional HVLP spray gun. The wheel will then be returned to the oven for stoving.
Final Lacquer Coat
We will remove the wheels from the oven and allow them to cool down to a lower temperature. Then, we will apply a powder clear lacquer and return the wheel to the oven for final curing. Once the process is complete, we will remove the wheel from the oven and allow it to cool down.
Rebuild Wheel
Following the final alloy wheel refurbishment inspection, the tyre is refitted and the wheel rebalanced; your wheel is now complete.
