Our Alloy Wheel Repair Process
After we have removed your tyre, your alloy wheels will be checked for any buckles, flat spots, cracks etc. If any tig welding or straightening is required (charges will apply) we will inform you prior to continuing the job.
After the examination has been completed, the alloy wheels are then placed in a stripping tank to remove all of the paint.
Your alloy wheels are then power washed to clean any remaining traces of the chemical.
Each wheel is then prepped, having any of the kerbing marks removed. To do this we use several tools and have a purpose made machine using a selection of different discs and grinding wheels. Should the wheel have very deep marks then the area is tig welded to fill in the damage (extra costs may apply if this is required).
This involves a light media blasting with sand to remove any remaining paint residue and surface corrosion from the entire wheel.
Your alloy wheels are then placed into our industrial oven heated to 200 degrees to de-gas the alloy.
After the de-gas stage, high-quality powder coat primer is applied and the alloy wheel is returned to the oven for curing.
Your alloy wheels are then allowed to cool to a lower temperature. A base coat (colour) is applied using a top-quality professional HVLP spray gun, then returned to the oven for stoving.
Upon removal from the oven, wheels are allowed to cool to a lower temperature, then a powder clear lacquer is applied and the wheel is returned to the oven for final curing, then removed from the oven and allowed to cool down.
After the final inspection the tyre is refitted and the wheel rebalanced, your refurbished alloy wheel is now complete and ready for collection or we can arrange a courier (additional cost will apply for courier).
Common Alloy Wheel Refurbishment Questions
How long does it take to refurbish an alloy wheel?
This comes down to the level of refurbishment your alloy wheel requires. Typically we can fully complete a set of alloy wheels to be refurbished within 3 days. However this can range from same day turnaround for light work to up to 1 week for heavy restoration.
Can curbed alloy wheels be repaired?
The alloy wheels will be inspected to assess how much work they require. The alloy wheel may require welding as a filler and then we smooth this down ready for the next process or refurbishment.
Is it worth restoring a wheel with curb rash?
That’s completely down to you, but we think so. We work on many fleet cars and hire cars too, which need last minute repairs before returning the vehicle. It may simply be irritating you that your perfect alloy wheels have a mild curb rash on them.
Can I change the colour of my alloy wheels?
Yes of course! We offer an almost unlimited range of colours with multiple finishes. We powder coat each wheel to your desired colour(s).
Do you also repair steel wheels?
Yes, we repair at least 2 sets of steel wheels every week. Often from classic cars, campervans and motorhomes.
Can I send my set of alloy wheels to you by courier and have them sent back by courier too?
Indeed you can. However we ask that you arrange a courier if possible. We can arrange this but cannot give an accurate quote for delivery. This will be to and from our location in Derby.
